My house is getting an entire facelift. We had new flooring put in all throughout the house and painted ceilings, walls and trims in every room. It is a BIG job. What makes it even more crazy is the fact that we have to live in this house while these projects are being done.
My master bedroom has become the pantry, makeshift kitchen and hang out space in the evenings. All of my family within one room. It is fun until around 9:30pm when I have had enough of people. I am in introvert and need that space. Some nights I use my words to communicate my needs in a constructive way. It sounds something like, "Hey guys, time for everyone to go to their rooms and have some time alone." and other nights I snap, "I need everyone to leave, I can't have you in my room any longer."
While I am a big fan of knowing your limits, I am also a believer that words are powerful and create emotions within us. My kids won't remember what I saw, but they will remember how it made them feel. The passive aggressive way of saying what I want does not allow me to show up in a way that I desire. So next time you need a break from something, just state it. Keep it simple and kind.
