Scared...it is an emotion that we are not comfortable with. Our brain says, "Alert! Something has gone wrong. I don't like this feeling, let's get away from whatever is causing the scary feeling."
Now sometimes our instinct is right and we need to flee. But most of the time, that scared feeling comes from the possibilities of something NEW in our lives. For instance, going back to school as an adult, starting an online business account (ME!), inviting a new friend to do something with you, telling your spouse something they might not want to hear, standing up to your kids and not letting them yell at you anymore.
Next time you start to feel scared, say to your brain, "I am scared to do this thing. I know I might fail (or be rejected), but I choose to try because I could also succeed (gain confidence, make a new friend, deepen a relationship, gain respect) and either way I am just experiencing a feeling. I choose to take a chance on myself!"
Validate your brain's concern and open up to the possibility of both outcomes. The good is just as likely to happen as the bad. In face in my experience, most of the time, the good out performs the bad.
